Slay mamas.

As we all know, moms are the foundation of any family — fictional or otherwise. Without their guidance, assistance and — most importantly — love and support, we’d ALL be a hot mess. Oh, and they LITERALLY gave us life. Let’s not forget that.

Motherhood has certainly evolved over the years, but it’s safe to say that the role has relatively remained the same: one part unconditional love, two parts sacrifice and one MILLION parts hard work.

We’re happy to see such a variety of moms on the small screen. Whether they’re in powerful positions at work, stay-at-home moms, single parents or managing with a supportive partner, they all have one thing in common — they’re raising their kids right.

We decided to celebrate these 10 TV moms we’d love to have (if our own moms weren’t so incredible):

1. Topanga Matthews, Girl Meets World

We are SO pleased that Cory and Topanga decided to procreate! They’re basically the ultimate dream team when it comes to fictional parents. Beyond having a fantastic partner to back her up, Topanga’s sensitive side allows her to really empathize with her kids — drawing on her own experiences to help them grow.

2. Claire Dunphy, Modern Family

Claire’s best quality is her sense of humour — and the fact she isn’t afraid to bring the sass if necessary. Beyond that, she’ll do everything in her power to make sure her kids are happy (even if that means letting go of the plans she originally had for them).

3. Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls

Although Lorelai and Rory’s relationship is far more BFF-like than a typical mother-daughter duo, she still knows when to be firm. She understands her daughter on a spiritual level — she knows what she’s thinking and what she needs without Rory ever having to verbalize it. Plus, their back and forth is iconic.

4. Stef Foster & Lena Adams, The Fosters

These mamas — respectively a police officer and a vice principal — balance each other out. Together they are able to discipline their kids to push them towards moral ground when they lose their way, while maintaining sensitivity and understanding. With Stef’s biological son and their adoptive children, together they are raising five kids and are doing it right. They bring laughter and joy to their kids life while also providing solid life lessons. Although sometimes they jump the gun they always take a moment to talk to their kids to truly understand and relate to them. They have an undying love for their always changing growing and help their kids adapt to their constantly changing life.

5. Karen Roe, One Tree Hill

If there’s one thing Karen is, it’s wise. She gave stellar life advice to not just Lucas, but all of his friends as well. Basically, she’s the unofficial mom representative for all of Tree Hill.

6. Cookie Lyon, Empire

While Cookie may not be a shining example of good citizenship, she is a fierce mama bear who would do ANYTHING for her family. Her dedication and loyalty to maintaining a family unit sometimes clouds her judgement (see: always) but you know her heart is always in the right place. There is NOTHING she wouldn’t do for her family.

7. Olivia Benson, Law & Order: SVU

We honestly don’t know how Olivia does it — she somehow manages to balance her demanding, high-powered policing job in New York City with raising her newly-adopted, former foster son Noah. No matter how busy she is, she never neglects her responsibilities as a mother. Her system may be unconventional, but it works.

8. Rainbow Johnson, Black-ish

Doctor and mother of three (four if you count her somewhat childish husband Dre) Rainbow Johnson is always trying to make sure she’s in tune with what’s happening with her kids. She’s also acutely aware of the importance of their formative years as they grow up African-American in the United States.

9. Amy Duncan, Good Luck Charlie

Honestly, we’re in awe of Amy and her ability to keep everything (somewhat) straight in the Duncan household. With 5 kids to take care of, we have NO CLUE where she finds the time to sleep or shower, let alone work. But even though she had a MILLION things going on, she’ll always make time for her kids individually.

10. Carey Martin, The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody

Singer and single mom Carey Martin most certainly had her hands full with her troublemaking twins Zack and Cody. But no matter what they did, she always made sure to make a mess into a teachable moment.
